How fast can we make money with a Niche Blog?

We are going to run a little test to see just how fast we can make money from a Niche Site. Actually we will make two niche sites, one that we will tell you the URL of and one that we won’t. We will use the exact same methods on each site and report our progress as we go. Revenue from each site will go towards our $100 goal. We are just going to keep one site secret so that we don’t skew the results with traffic from the Bloggerpreneur. For right now we are going to test for 3 things:
How long does it take to generate any revenue
How long does it take to get listed in various search engines
How much per day will the sites earn at the end of one month.

Niche Blogging

After doing a bit of research on making money with your blog we have found that one way to monetize your site is through niche blogging. Basically, find a topic and blog only on that topic. The key however is to make sure that your topic is not only interesting to you, but to the search engines as well. The goal of a niche blog is to generate traffic to your blog based on people searching for your topic on the search engines so it is key that you get your site listed high in the search engine rankings. I am really oversimplifying the process so here is a good link on setting up a niche site.

Pro Blogging Business Plan: Update 1

If there is one thing that I know about blogging for dollars it is that there is an awful log of stuff that I don’t know. About a week ago we talked about creating a business plan for this blog. That was easier said than done. I’ve created business plans before but only for business ventures and proposals that started with a great idea. Usually a well defined idea and always in an area that you could say I have some expertise.
When it comes to the Bloggerpreneur, I don’t have a clearly defined idea and I definitely don’t have any expertise so we are going to approach our business plan a bit differently as compared to your standard text book business plan. Our plan will be very fluid and actually developed as we go along. The idea (or experiment) is to generate revenue from a blog. Based on research that we have done of the passed couple of weeks we know that we should:

  1. Put up a site with fresh content.
  2. Get a lot of traffic to the site.
  3. Put up some type of contextual based ads and maybe an affiliate or two.
  4. Sell Bloggerpreneur merchandise from the site.
  5. Accept donations from Paypal. (Only as a last resort, or, maybe as a frist)
  6. Watch the money roll in. Kaching!!!

All kidding aside, we know that steps 2 and 1 are very important for any site to be successful. The first phase of our Business Blogging Plan will be to find a topic that we can create 3 to 4 posts a day on and figure out how to drive visitors to the site.

Traffic Traffic Traffic

It has been said that any good business needs three things. Location, Location, and Location. I think that when it comes to weblogs the same mantra is true, however, we could change it to Traffic, Traffic, and Traffic. One thing you can be sure of is that if you get no visitors to your blog, it will not generate any revenue. As we develop our road map for creating revenue with a blog, one thing we can be sure to include is a plan to generate traffic.

Pro Blogging Business Plan

If we are going to build a blog that generates revenue we have to approach it differently than we would a personal blog. In fact, we should approach our blog as we would a business. The first thing that any fledgling business needs is a business plan. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Let’s make sure that we do neither so let’s start off by mapping out how we can make money by blogging and what we need to do to be successful in it.

More on the 12 Week $100 Per Day Challenge

We first told you about the 12 Week $100 Per Day Challenge a couple of days ago in it’s modified rules version as stated by Ryan Sheehy. The original challenge comes from Navad Lichter of WebSiteNights.com and his rules are a bit looser and geared towards internet marketer’s who have an idea of what they are doing.

1. It does not matter if you’re starting to work on a new project or an existing one, as long as this project is not making you ANY money right now.
2. Lay out your plan in advance - and post it for us to read - this will not only educate others but also put positive pressure for you to act. You can always change your plan as needed.
3. Report your progress somewhere we can see. A blog… a forum thread… as long as people are able to follow your low points/high points/success. Posting as you go has a few reasons:
- People will learn from what you do.
- People will be able to help with advice if you need it
- Again that positive pressure thing.
- People tend to think that IM is about immediate & fast success and when they don’t hit it immediately they quit. Would it not be inspiring seeing others who continue despite their difficulties?
4. Send me an email to - lichter AT gmail.com - where I can add you to my list on the main page so others can see your progress journal.
5. That’s it.

Seeing how I am a brand newbie to all of this stuff I think that I would be getting in a bit over my head to actually enter Navad’s challenge. I will, however, take on Ryan’s modified version with one additional tweak. Instead of trying to get to $100 dollars a day, I will try to get to $100 dollars a month. This will also satisfy our original simple goal of making $100 by blogging.

Make Sense of AdSense Stats

I am definitely going to have to do a bit a research on AdSense so that I can get a better understanding how the system works.  Google has very strict rules about what you can and cannot say about your stats page so I must be careful here not to get too specific.  I have page impressions and people have clicked on the adds, but I haven't earned anything yet.  Naively, I thought that if someone clicked on an add that you would just get paid.  Apparently there is a bit more too it that that.  I think it may have something to do with Effective CPM

The 12 Week Challenge

I found a link on FeedBuzzard that lead us to Ryan Sheehy’s blog that has an interesting proposal.

Try to create a NET income of US$100/day from the internet STARTING with NOTHING (bar a computer and an internet connection) and achieve this WITHIN 12 weeks!

This is much more ambitious than are goal of just making $100 bucks periord, but very interesting, none the less.

If You Build It, Will They Come

Wouldn't it be great if we could just sit back and let the money roll in now that we've put Adsense on our site. This actually might be the case if we were getting thousands of visitors per day but unfortunately, we aren't even getting dozens of visitors per day. What kinds of things can we do to increase traffic?

Can AdSense Add Cents to Our $100 Goal

Well, if we are ever going to accomplish our simple goal of making 100 bucks by blogging, we had better facilitate some mechanism for generating revenue on this blog, i.e., we are about to install AdSense.

Help me name my blog...

If you’ve read the first post, you know that I am having a bit of a problem coming up with a name for this blog. I know that good, descriptive titles of posts within a blog are important for search engine optimization, but, what about the title of the blog itself? I could go with a descriptive name like “Make $100 Bucks Blogging”. Even though that is a pretty lame name, it is very descriptive. The problem I see with this type of name is that, although this blog is (will be) fairly topical, I don’t think that 50 posts from now it will be only about making 100 bucks by blogging. It will be more about the process that I go through to generate revenue from the blogging.

That being said, I have no idea what to name this thing. If you have any ideas or suggestions, I could sure use them. Feel free to leave a comment.

How to make money with your blog

We did a bit of research today on things you can do to make money with your blog. We found a variety of things ranging from joining affiliate programs, to selling ad space, to selling merchandise on your site, to asking for donations. We will look at all these techniques once this site is a bit more established, but for now, there was one program that consistently came first and most often while doing searches that we will try to implement ASAP. That program is Google’s Adsense.

My very first comment...

Only after about 12 or 14 hours of being a Professional Blogger, I have recieved my first comment. I am so proud :)

The Experiment

What does it take to generate revenue from a blog? This is a question that I have been contemplating for some time now. Our goal is simple. Lets make $100 bucks from blogging and journal our progress as we go.

Hello World

Welcome to the first post on "Not quite sure what to name this blog". For now I will just use my name... Bloggerpreneur.
